Privacy
EchoDiar keeps your recordings on your Mac. Audio and transcripts leave it only for the cloud services you set up.
What the app sends over the network
- Update checks. EchoDiar fetches its update feed (
appcast.xml) from this website and downloads updates from GitHub Releases. - Model downloads. Only when you click Download, from huggingface.co, at pinned versions. Apple Speech language assets are installed by macOS from Apple.
- Cloud transcription. Only if you set up a cloud engine and confirm once for that provider and address. The recording's audio then goes to that provider, with your key.
- AI. Only when you generate a summary or ask a question, and only to the provider you picked: the transcript (or parts of it), the meeting title and date, speaker names, the saved summary, your question and recent chat messages.
- Provider setup. Testing a key or loading a model list contacts that provider.
- Subscription CLIs. Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Gemini CLI send the same data to their own service, with your login.
- Local AI. MLX models and Apple Foundation Models run on your Mac. LM Studio, Ollama, Jan, llama.cpp and vLLM are reached at
127.0.0.1unless you change the address. - Nothing else. No analytics, usage, crash or install reporting.
What stays on your Mac
- Recordings, transcripts, summaries and chats are in
~/Library/Application Support/EchoDiar/Conversations. - Downloaded models and
settings.jsonare in the sameEchoDiarfolder. - API keys are stored in the Keychain, not in the settings file.
- Copy as prompt puts the text on the clipboard, marked as transient for clipboard managers.
- Settings > Storage can move old conversations, or only their audio, to the Trash.
People you record
- Tell them that you are recording, and follow the law where you and they live. EchoDiar has a consent message you can copy.
This website
- Hosted on GitHub Pages, which may log IP addresses.
- No analytics and no cookies. Your theme choice is kept in local storage.
- The version in the header is read from this site's own
appcast.xml, a same-origin request with no third party involved. - The Geist font is loaded from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address.
